We’ve been lusting after the latest internet search trends for sex toys to learn more about what the public wants to know about sex toys and their use. Why? We’re as curious as the 5400 people a month searching for what a dildo is(!!!), let alone the other 1800 individuals wondering how to ride one… Do Californians and Floridians spice up the bedroom with the same toys? What sex toy do Oklahomans love more than any other state in the country? These are the burning questions we just had to answer for ourselves.

Where do your preferences and proclivities fall? What fun new toys will this inspire you to try in the coming months? Whether you’re into strap ons, cock rings, pussy pockets, penis pumps, or all of the above, get inspired and get curious about what the rest of America is hot for in 2024.

Sexy Discoveries and Fun Takeaways

Sexual health and wellness are sexy, too!

People want to know all about how to clean and care for various sex toys, especially dildos, vibrators, and anal sex toys. We can see that there’s a lot of curiosity for different materials (such as silicone, glass, and hard plastic), in addition to awareness that each requires different care.

It’s great to see people taking their sexual health and sex toy safety into their own hands, literally!

Getting freaky in celebration: Happy New Year and Happy Valentine’s Day

One thing data consistently shows is people's eagerness for sex toys around the holidays – for gifting to others or for themselves, or a little bit of both. (Because why not treat yourself?)

  • On New Year’s Day, 2024, a record number of people rose to the occasion on New Year’s with searches for pocket pussy toys. Interest in the topic piqued again at the end of the month, likely showcasing men taking their New Year’s resolutions to the next level.
  • Searches for anal beads also skyrocketed at this time, which could indicate people want to spend holiday money and gift certificates – or they’re ready to dive into a new solo or partnered sexual adventure. This was especially true for Maine and Nebraska, states that showed anal beads search activity on New Year’s Day and the start of February, respectively.
  • Valentine’s Day is popular for fans of anal play, with searches for anal toys coming to a head just two weeks before the holiday. Valentine’s Day seems like the ideal time to engage with a new partner or try something new and adventurous in the bedroom – so this makes total sense for those seeking new roads in intimacy.

Masturbation March Madness!

Feeling twitterpated after a long winter? The data proves it! Trends for masturbator products were more aroused during the beginning of March 2024 as well, especially in North Dakota. While it’s possible that an annual home and garden show in the great northern state made attendees long for some self-love, it’s more likely to do with the arrival of spring and the end of cuffing season, when people are moving on after the snuggling and partnerships that kept them warm during those bitterly cold months.

Self-love isn’t limited to the end of cuffing season or to our friends up north.

Bad winter weather on the East Coast likely influenced people in West Virginia to go deep with their self love via a pocket pussy. This trend continues nationally, with the desire for masturbatory toys generally much higher during the winter months. Not surprisingly, toys that can be used solo or together tend to rise in popularity as Valentine’s Day approaches.

Sticking to the classics: Dildos

Dildos, ever the kings and queens of the sex toy drawer, reign supreme. While the sex toy market continues to expand with intriguing, sexy, and innovative products like app-controlled toys, this titular classic has a strong hold on American desire. People have a LOT of questions about dildos, a timeless and popular sex toy.

Aside from wondering what dildos are, people are always curious about non-sex toy objects they can use as dildos and how to use them with partners safely – the key point being safely. “Things to use as a dildo” searches are a flirtatious 935 per month according to Moz data. This is also a hot topic on forums within Reddit and Quora, and the TL;DR seems to be that so long as there’s no sharp edges, nothing breakable, and it can be easily washed between uses, the sky seems to be the limit on non-dildo dildos.

Despite modern technology that includes long-distance partner vibrators and increasingly responsive and intuitive sex toys, people want the classic, and they want to know all about how to use dildos, how to take care of them, and where to buy them. This also makes sense because dildos are a common entry point to sex toys: a gateway toy, if you will.

Dildos are versatile and fit most anatomy, and people tend to use them in groups, partnered, or solo. Some people even collect dildos and use different dildos for different occasions. While not as discreet as some battery-operated sex toys, dildos fit in with airline restrictions. They can also be mass marketed and are comparatively inexpensive.

The trend makes sense when you see what people are actually buying: dildos make up 24% of the global sex toy industry. That’s a lot of units sold!

Vibrators as sexual wellness tools

Even mainstream pharmacies now list vibrators as sexual wellness tools, which has made women more open to experimenting with vibrators. Takes running errands to new heights, doesn’t it?

We looked at data for the wand vibrator, rabbit vibrator, and clit vibrator to find that the internet was consistently buzzing with the need for speed, especially in Spring: all three piqued around the beginning of March, with states like Idaho, West Virginia, Rhode Island leading the way for sexual wellness in this form.

That’s not to say pleasure for the gents is underrepresented. The new year brought peak searches for cock rings and anal plugs, too!

The Future of Sex Toys in America is Bright

Every adult should be able to enjoy themselves on their own terms, and this trip through trend data and research proves that Americans are doing just that!

People can’t get enough of trying tried-and-true classic sex toys in addition to thrilling themselves and their chosen partners with something exciting and fresh. Additionally, Americans are more committed than ever to learning about sexual health and safety with their sexual activities and sex toys.

Sex toys are more than an $11 billion dollar industry in the US: they’re a way for people to experience pleasure and explore their own bodies, all while feeling amazing and having fun along the way.
